Design and print
any label —
your way.

VectorLabel is a macOS label-design suite for thermal printers. Lay out wire, cable, asset, panel and patch labels by hand in the Custom Designer — or pull your data straight from Vectorworks ConnectCAD. Then print to Brady and Brother in a couple of clicks.

Design from scratch, or bring your data — barcodes, QR and 2-D codes built in.
VectorLabel — Template Designer
One suite, four apps

Everything from blank canvas to printed label.

VectorLabel is a coordinated set of macOS apps. Design labels with or without a template, watch for new data, and drive your printers — each piece does one job well.

Custom Designer

Design any label on an open canvas — no template, no CAD required. Plus a database mode for browsing and editing records inline.

Template Designer

Build reusable templates, bind fields to your data, and reuse them across every project and every batch of labels.

AutoPrint

Watches your export folder. The moment new data lands from Vectorworks, the print window opens with your records loaded.

Engine

The print engine and menu-bar hub. Owns the printers, manages the queue, detects cassettes and publishes live status.

How it works

Two ways to make a label.

Start from a blank canvas in the Custom Designer, or pull your data straight from Vectorworks. Same printers, same power — pick the workflow that fits the job.

Custom Designer

No CAD needed

Design any label by hand — wire wraps, asset tags, panel and equipment labels, anything your printer can make.

  1. Open a canvas at your exact label or tape size.
  2. Add text, barcodes, QR, images and shapes — drag, rotate, auto-scale to fit, and drop in the current date/time.
  3. Print — or load a list in database mode and print a whole batch.

Vectorworks

Data-driven

Turn ConnectCAD circuits into labels automatically — device names, sockets, connectors, cables and racks, no re-typing.

  1. Run the plug-in in Vectorworks — selected circuits, or every circuit on the layer.
  2. It exports silently and AutoPrint opens the print window with your records ready.
  3. Pick a template and print — with live per-label progress.
What's inside

Built for accurate, barcode-ready labels.

Every feature is aimed at one thing: getting the right text and codes onto the right label, fast — whether you're designing one or printing hundreds.

Visual designer

Drag text, barcodes, images, symbols, lines, arrows and shapes — rectangles (now with rounded corners), ellipses, triangles and polygons — onto a true-to-size canvas. Rotate and fill anything; auto-scale text to fit. Work on several labels at once in tabs.

15 barcode & 2-D codes

QR, Data Matrix, Aztec, Micro QR, PDF417, Code 128, GS1-128, Code 39/93, EAN/UPC and more — regenerated per record at print time.

Field & formula binding

Bind any element to a data column, or compute it with Excel-style formulas — IF, LEFT, MID, UPPER, concatenation and more.

Filter, sort & presets

Print only the labels you need — filter by field, sort by column or rack/RackU, and save filter-and-sort presets for next time.

Inline record editing

Spot a typo? Click a cell in the record browser, fix it, and the change syncs straight back to the data — no context switch.

Editable supply catalog

A full catalog of Brady and Brother supplies — sizes, part numbers, quantities and buy links — all editable in-app, no code needed.

Honest live job status

Per-label progress that's never faked — if a printer stops reporting you see “unknown”, pausing an M611 on the device shows “Printer paused”, and Cancel appears whenever a job can actually be stopped. Plus a Recent Prints history you can reprint from in one click.

Import existing templates

Migrate from Brady Workstation .BWT or Brother P-touch .lbx files — geometry, text and barcodes come across intact, and the matching supply is picked for you automatically.

Per-printer calibration

Print a calibration grid, dial in the offset once, and every label lands perfectly aligned — settings survive app updates.

Inches or millimetres

Pick your units once in the Engine and every ruler, dimension field, preview and supply readout switches suite-wide — display only, so a saved template never changes.

Type fractions & math

Enter 1/8", 1 1/4 or 3mm into any dimension field and it converts to your unit — arithmetic too, so .25"−1/8" lands at 0.125″.

Date & time text

Set a text object, barcode or table cell to Date/Time and it prints the current date and time — plenty of formats, including compact YYYYMMDD.

Auto-sync your data

Point the Custom Designer at a CSV or Excel file and turn on Auto-sync — it reloads the moment the file changes on disk, so your labels always match the latest data.

Design once, print hundreds

Your data flows into the label automatically.

Map each part of the label to a column from your data — whether it came from Vectorworks or your own spreadsheet — or build it with a formula. Then every record prints with its own text, no manual edits.

=IF(Number<>"",Number&IF(Cable<>""," - "&Cable,""),IF(Cable<>"",Cable,""))
That's the actual main-line formula from the 1_5x4 V1 template — VectorLabel evaluates it for every record.

Hardware

One app, your printers.

VectorLabel speaks directly to thermal label printers over USB and the network — discovering printers automatically, detecting loaded media, and reporting status live on supported models.

  • 300 DPI thermal, self-laminating wire wraps
  • M611 network printing & live telemetry verified
  • SmartCell cassette auto-detection
  • Die-cut labels auto-orient to the loaded cassette — wire wraps, raised panels, even custom supplies
  • Built-in cutter — cut after job, every label, or never
Brother
